Eurovision Winners’ Mishaps with Crystal Microphones

Eurofans have repeatedly seen videos of the winner of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest — Switzerland’s representative Nemo, accidentally breaking a crystal microphone. This happened because they underestimated the force when «falling» to their knees — as a result, the top part of the statuette broke off.

However, Nemo was not the first to find themselves in such an embarrassing situation. A similar incident occurred with Norwegian musician Alexander Rybak, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009. Fans of the song contest remembered this incident after discovering a video from 15 years ago. Back then, the singer admitted that he broke the coveted trophy just minutes after receiving it. The Norwegian accidentally broke the crystal statuette in the shape of a microphone, not calculating the force when placing it on stage, according to Digital Spy. In a conversation with The Sun, a representative of Rybak said, «Yes, it broke, but in my opinion, it’s because of weak glue. It can be easily fixed.»
