The Austrian government extends tuition fee exemption for Ukrainian students

The Austrian government has extended the exemption for Ukrainian students from tuition fees for the winter semester of the 2024/25 academic year. This applies to students studying at state universities and university colleges of teacher education.

According to the Ministry of Education of Austria, this exceptional support will remain valid from the summer semester of 2022. Ukrainian students enrolled in 22 state universities and 14 university colleges of teacher education will not have to pay admission fees.

It should be noted that this decision has been applied since 2022, but does not cover universities of applied sciences and private institutions due to legal restrictions and financial aspects. However, many of these institutions offer their own support programs for Ukrainian students.

In 2023, approximately 2,500 Ukrainians pursued higher education in Austrian universities, confirming a significant interest in studying in the country.
