Ukraine and Moldova Discuss Extradition of Illegal Border Crossers

Ukraine and Moldova are actively discussing the extradition of Ukrainians who illegally crossed the Moldovan border and did not receive political asylum. This was revealed by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Moldova, Marko Shevchenko, during the broadcast of the program «New Week» on TV8.

Over 100,000 Ukrainians Residing in Moldova

According to Shevchenko, there are currently over 100,000 Ukrainians in Moldova. Many of them lack refugee status or other documents legalizing their residence within the country.

Applications for Temporary Protection

From March 1, 2023, to July 22, 2024, almost 67,300 individuals have applied to the General Inspectorate for Immigration for temporary protection in Moldova. Additionally, over two thousand individuals have sought asylum in the country.

Ukrainian Citizens Evading Conscription

The exact number of Ukrainian citizens who have evaded conscription in Ukraine remains unknown, as this data is not publicly available.

Ukrainians Applying for Moldovan Citizenship

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, over 2,600 Ukrainians have applied for Moldovan citizenship, and nearly 1,700 individuals have obtained citizenship through recognition.
