The mayor of Odessa takes action against outdoor café Grace
The mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, has launched a campaign against the outdoor café Grace located on Katerynynska Street, 8/10. The executive committee of the Odessa City Council unanimously decided to dismantle the platform, which was identified as a «temporary structure with an area of 11.64 square meters».
On April 8, the owners of the café were requested to remove the platform themselves by the 12th. After they turned to court in an attempt to challenge the decision, the Odessa District Administrative Court rejected their appeal, paving the way for the city authorities to proceed with dismantling.
Mayor Trukhanov expressed his frustration over the situation, stating, «The businessman presented a project that was approved by our services, but the actual layout of the outdoor café was different. The platform not only occupied two meters of the sidewalk but also included additional installations like a grill and cocktail tables, obstructing pedestrian movement and forcing them onto the roadway. While we understand the challenges faced by businesses, if rules continue to be ignored, we will take necessary action to avoid chaos in the city.»
