China imposes sanctions on American defense companies

China has imposed sanctions on three American defense companies — General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems, and Boeing Defense, Space & Security — in response to arms sales to Taiwan. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to AFP and Reuters.

These companies are prohibited from engaging in import-export activities in China. Senior executives of these companies are also prohibited from entering the country, their work permits cancelled, and their guest status and residence applications will not be approved.

The sanctions were announced by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua with reference to the country’s Ministry of Commerce. This comes after the inauguration of Taiwan’s new president, Tsai Ing-wen, who began her historic third consecutive term for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, which continues to defend democracy against growing threats from China.
