Emergency Power Outages in Kharkiv Due to Energy System Shortage
Residents of Kharkiv and the surrounding region are currently experiencing emergency power outages due to a shortage of electricity in Ukraine’s unified energy system. The company «Kharkivoblenergo» has implemented a schedule of power cuts to manage the situation.
The damage to power stations was caused by rocket and drone strikes from Russian forces on Ukrainian energy facilities. Starting from March 22, Russian forces intensified shelling of energy facilities in Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, as well as throughout Ukraine. As a result of the strikes, TEC-5 has stopped generating electricity, and it is estimated that it will take years to restore the station.
In response to the crisis, regions across Ukraine are providing assistance to the Kharkiv region. Over 1000 generators have already been delivered to help alleviate the effects of the power outages.
