Last year’s winter crops in Kharkiv region

Last year, farmers in the Kharkiv region sowed winter crops on 325.9 thousand hectares, which is 46.2% more than in 2022.

Breakdown of winter crops

The largest area — 323 thousand hectares — was sown with winter wheat. 22.9 thousand hectares were allocated for winter rape, 2.4 thousand hectares for barley, and 0.5 thousand for rye, according to the press service of the Kharkiv Regional Agrarian Administration.

Winter dormancy

«Over most of the territory of the Kharkiv region, winter crops have remained in a state of shallow winter dormancy for a decade, only in the southern and central regions, where high air and soil temperatures were observed, winter crops were weakly vegetating during the daytime,» noted Deputy Chief of the Kharkiv Regional Agrarian Administration, Yevhen Ivanov.

Plans for spring crops

This year, farmers in the region plan to sow spring crops on an area of over 960 thousand hectares. An increase in areas under spring wheat, peas, buckwheat, millet, and sunflower is expected.
