Former policeman from Kharkiv region, who along with his brother launched a missile at the settlement of Groza, resulting in the deaths of over 50 people, has been charged with state treason.
The State Bureau of Investigations reports that during the occupation of Kupyansk, he actively collaborated with the occupiers. He joined the enemy’s patrol service, taking shifts at checkpoints with Russian military personnel, issuing fines to local residents, and even confiscating their cars to hand them over to Russian forces.
He received 45,000 Russian rubles per month for his work. After the liberation of Kupyansk, he fled to the territory controlled by the Russians. The Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office added that he is a 23-year-old former policeman, the younger of the brothers who launched a missile at a cafe in the village of Groza on October 5, 2023, where a memorial service for a deceased soldier was taking place.
Groza Tragedy: Details
On October 5 of last year, Russian military forces launched a missile strike on the settlement of Groza in Kupyansk district of Kharkiv region. The «Iskander-M» missile hit a local cafe, where a memorial feast was being held for a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman. 59 civilians were killed.
Law enforcement officials identified the individuals who launched the Russian missile at the cafe. They were two brothers, former residents of the settlement: 30-year-old Volodymyr Mamon and his younger brother, 23-year-old Dmytro Mamon, who sided with the occupiers during the region’s occupation.
The brothers face life imprisonment for state treason.
