According to the dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the National University «Kyiv-Mohyla Academy», Yevhen Khlobystov, Russian missiles can damage any dam in Ukraine.
«Even the most powerful dam at the DniproHES can be seriously damaged, even destroyed, by dozens of ‘Zircon’ missiles, according to various estimates. This also applies to the Kyiv dam,» Khlobystov noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that the Kyiv dam, located on the outskirts of the capital, has sufficiently strong anti-air defense systems.
«A breach in the Kyiv hydroelectric station will certainly lead to the flooding of certain parts of Kyiv. However, this will not have catastrophic consequences,» Khlobystov emphasized.
He pointed out that residents of the left bank, as well as parts of Obolon on the right bank, may experience some inconvenience due to the water level rising up to 1 meter.
«Some garden plots in Osokorky and Vyshenky could be flooded. Basements may be flooded. Some uncomfortable amount of water on the lowlands on the left bank is possible. However, we do not expect a disaster,» Khlobystov noted.
