The Nature of Consciousness
The question of the nature of consciousness, known as the «mind-body problem,» has sparked interest among philosophers and scientists for centuries. Recent reflections on this topic have led to the formulation of the «hard problem» of consciousness, introduced by philosopher David Chalmers in the 1990s.
Chalmers noted that understanding brain activity at a physical level is easier than explaining how consciousness arises from it. Scientists have taken on the challenge of tackling this complex task.
The Resonant Theory
The scientific community has recently turned its attention to the innovative «resonant theory of consciousness,» developed by Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Jonathan Schooler, and his colleagues.
They propose that all material objects, from elementary particles to the brain, naturally vibrate at different frequencies. This resonant vibration may play a crucial role not only in the formation of human consciousness, but also in the consciousness of animals and possibly the structure of physical reality as a whole.
