The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Welcomes UN General Assembly Resolution on Nuclear Security
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has welcomed the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the resolution «Security and Safety of Nuclear Facilities of Ukraine, including the Zaporizhzhia NPP,» which was initiated by the Ukrainian side. This was reported in a comment by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.
The department emphasized that the General Assembly reaffirmed support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and strongly condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which contradicts the principles of the UN Charter.
The General Assembly’s decision also reaffirmed the illegitimacy of the temporary occupation of Ukrainian territories by Russian forces and condemned any attempts to change their status in accordance with international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed. The resolution also calls on the Russian Federation to stop attacking Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure, especially the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and demands the immediate return of control over it to Ukraine.
The Ministry added that along with practical measures to implement the Peace Formula, the UN General Assembly resolution has become an important international instrument for ensuring nuclear security and protection of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
«Ukraine expresses gratitude to all UN member states that supported this resolution,» the Ministry’s statement said.
