Currently, there is no information about any casualties. The National Museum of History of Ukraine has raised donations in a record short amount of time – 772 thousand hryvnias, necessary for the dismantling of the illegally built «church-kiosk» of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. This was reported by the museum’s press service on Facebook.
«Friends, you are incredible. You have raised the necessary amount (772 thousand hryvnias) for the dismantling of the unauthorized «church-kiosk» on the museum’s territory, in less than a day!» – the message said.
As noted by the museum, «the speed with which the necessary amount was collected indicates that Ukrainian society supports the dismantling of the unauthorized church kiosks in the historical heart of Kyiv – Starykyivska Hora». The fundraising for the necessary amount was announced by the Charitable Foundation for the Development of the National Museum of History of Ukraine.
The museum’s press service reminded that in September 2023, the Northern Commercial Court of Appeal confirmed the illegality of the unauthorized construction and ordered the demolition of the building and the restoration of the land plot to its previous state at the expense of the person who committed the violation. The court’s decision has become legally binding and is in the stage of forced execution since October 2, 2023.
The museum staff also noted that «there is no need to expect voluntary compliance with the court decision from the person who illegally seized the museum’s land plot and carried out unauthorized construction on it».
«As of today, the only way to execute the court’s decision and remove the debris from the museum’s territory is to incur the enforcement costs on behalf of the briber – the museum, by involving a specialized enterprise with a permit for conducting works associated with increased danger,» the message said.
What is known about the illegal «church-kiosk» in Kyiv
As reported by UNIAN, in February 2023, it was revealed that the court ordered the dismantling of the «church-kiosk» (kiosk – small architectural forms) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, illegally built near the National Museum of History in Kyiv. In particular, the decision was made because the location of this structure on the museum’s land plot contradicts its intended use.
The illegally built structure is located in the buffer zone of UNESCO sites, where new construction is prohibited. This unauthorized structure also violates the ensemble of the historical archaeological complex «Desyatynna Church».
